So What's Inbound Marketing in Laymans Terms and How Does it Work?

Inbound marketing is a new way to think about marketing. The term was basically coined by the team at HubSpot a few years back. It is the opposite of marketing as you may know it.

Instead of focusing on interrupting prospective customers with outbound messages through radio, TV, banners, phone calls, spam emails, or direct mailings, inbound marketing focuses on attracting prospects who are looking for what you're peddling. Whether that be products or services, whether you're B-to-C or B-to-B. Inbound marketing focuses on blogging, social media, pay-per-click advertising, search engine marketing, website content updates, and permission-based email marketing to name a few.

If you can relate to some of the problems list below, you're probably a good candidate for inbound marketing:

  • You have a static website
  • You're not generating enough online leads
  • You're not generating enough online traffic
  • You're not using social media to build your brand or your tribe online
  • You're not blogging yet but know you should be
  • You're not sure how to update your current content management system
  • You want to start using email marketing if only to speak with your current customers
  • You want to learn how to use video, podcasting, blogging in your website content
  • You need help generating on-page copy for your website
